What's Actually Happening in Old Town Scottsdale This July

If you live here, you know the reflex. The forecast tips past 108, the snowbird plates thin out, and the assumption sets in that Old Town goes quiet until October. That reflex is wrong this year. The Camelback and Scottsdale Road corridors absorbed five nationally scaled restaurant openings between December and April, the FIFA World Cup runs through July 19, and the longest-running art walk in the country lights up the Arts District on the second Thursday of the month. July 2026 in Old Town is denser than the last five Julys put together, and the residents already here are the ones best positioned to use it.

Here is what to actually put on the calendar, and where the new rooms are worth walking into.

Thursday, July 9: The Night to Build the Week Around

The Scottsdale Gallery Association's weekly ArtWalk has run for 52 years, which makes it the longest-running art walk in the country. Most Thursdays it runs 7 to 9 p.m. across more than 30 galleries and two museums, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. A handful of Thursdays a year get promoted to a Gold Palette ArtWalk, with extended hours and a theme. July 9 is one of those Thursdays.

The Summer Spectacular Gold Palette ArtWalk runs 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. along Main Street from Scottsdale Road to Goldwater Boulevard, and north on Marshall Way to 5th Avenue. A few of the specific openings and shows worth routing between:

• Bonner David Galleries is showing Sweet, a group exhibition around confection and nostalgia with work by Karen Shapiro, John Schieffer, Peter Anton, and others. Up through Thursday, July 16, so the ArtWalk reception is the last full week to catch it.
• Anticus Fine Art Gallery presents Common Threads: Where Distinction Becomes Connection during the walk.
• The Signature Gallery hosts the Sonoran Oasis group show.
• Pejman Gallery features Bob Pejman's Blue Skies and Day's End in the Desert.
• Quan'tum Art, Inc. features John Gleason, Jacque L. Keller, Suzanne Larson, ceramicist Alvin Pace, and collage artist Laura Pascal.

Practical note for a Thursday in July: start at the north end of Marshall Way while there is still shade, work south, and end at a restaurant that has been holding a reservation.

The World Cup Rearranges the Bar Map Through July 19

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is playing out on television screens across the neighborhood from June 11 through July 19, which cuts directly across the stretch of summer when Old Town normally empties. Old Town Tavern, already voted the neighborhood's top small music venue, is showing every match of the tournament on indoor televisions and on the outdoor patio through the final. The tavern also recently moved next door into a larger space, so the room has more capacity than regulars remember.

The point for a resident is less about the soccer and more about the calendar. Matches spread across late morning, afternoon, and evening windows, which means the neighborhood has a reason to be crowded on weekday afternoons that would normally read as dead. A Wednesday lunch that would have been a ghost town in July 2025 will not be a ghost town this July.

Fourth of July, Ranked by What You Actually Want

Every major Scottsdale fireworks show launches at 9 p.m. sharp. The organizers coordinate timing so the displays do not overlap, which is useful information if you plan to be somewhere with a view but not directly under a show. Arrive by 8:30 p.m. to hold a spot.

If you are a resident with out-of-town family in the guest room, WestWorld remains the honest answer. If you are a resident whose kids are with the grandparents for the weekend, the W's rooftop is where the neighborhood is actually going.

Where the Air Conditioning Is Doing Real Work

Between December 2025 and April 2026, five national restaurant concepts opened flagship rooms within walking distance of Camelback Road and the Waterfront. That density is unusual for Scottsdale, which historically saw national brands test a cautious second location here. This cohort came in at full scale.

Din Tai Fung opened April 20 at 7014 E. Camelback Road, Suite 608. The Taiwanese soup dumpling operation was one of the most anticipated Arizona restaurant openings in years, and reservations have been releasing on a rolling basis since the soft opening. July is the first month the room is fully in regular service, which is exactly the window where a resident who knows the OpenTable rhythm has an edge over a visitor who doesn't.

The Guest House opened January 9 at Scottsdale Quarter, 15301 N. Scottsdale Road, in the former Etta space. The menu leans elevated New American with a wagyu program from founder Raj Kumar's Austin and Las Vegas locations, tableside preparations, and dishes like the Tuna and Caviar Cones and Spicy Rigatoni. The Etta staff was retained, so the service floor knows the room.

Cielito opened in February on the rooftop of the new AC Hotel Scottsdale Old Town. Old Town has, as one recent write-up put it, "a rooftop problem," where the views are strong and the execution has historically been uneven. Cielito was developed from the ground up by an anthropologist and a chef working together on the concept, which is a strange sentence to type but has produced an unusually coherent menu and room.

BOA Steakhouse opened at Scottsdale Waterfront in the first half of the year, run by Innovative Dining Group, the same operators who ran Sushi Roku at the W Scottsdale for fifteen years. Executive Chef Brendan Collins came from Michelin-starred kitchens in London and a run of Los Angeles restaurants. The Scottsdale kitchen is the first BOA to partner with Four Sixes Ranch out of Texas, and the signature is an 18-ounce dry-aged ribeye from the ranch.

Wolf by Vanderpump opened in December on the seventh floor of Caesars Republic Scottsdale. It is 6,500 square feet of rooftop with a central bar and a globally inspired menu that spills onto an eighth-floor veranda. The December opening drew national coverage, which for a Scottsdale rooftop is not the usual pattern.

The residents' read on this cluster is straightforward. National operators used to open their second-tier version in Scottsdale. This group opened flagships, which means the version of the concept you eat here is the version other cities will eventually get.

Daytime, When It Is 108 by Noon

The heat cuts the day in half. Mornings and evenings belong to the walkable outdoor blocks. The middle of the day is where a plan helps.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is running summer splash programming, which is the answer for anyone with kids under ten who need a pool that is not the backyard.

Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West is running special 75th anniversary exhibits through 2026, along with The Duke: Still in the Saddle, a John Wayne film series running through the summer. Air-conditioned, and unlike the tourist-heavy months, the galleries in July are essentially empty on a weekday.

Scottsdale Stadium hosts behind-the-scenes tours through the summer. If someone in the household has never seen a spring training clubhouse from the inside, this is the month.

For the frozen-treat problem, the neighborhood is running a resident-voted Tournament of Treats down to a final matchup between Sweet Republic, Shakes & Cones, Skoop Premium Ice Cream, and The Original ChopShop. Voting closed at the end of June. Sweet Republic and Original ChopShop reached the final round, which mostly serves as a decent shortlist if you have not tried all four.

The Read for July

The usual July move is to book somewhere cooler and check back in October. This July that logic breaks. Five flagship rooms are still in their opening service window. The World Cup keeps the neighborhood populated through the 19th. The Gold Palette ArtWalk on the 9th is the busiest single evening the Arts District will see between spring and the fall gallery season. The residents who route their next three weekends around those anchors will get a version of Old Town that most of the neighborhood will not.
